En esta versión de Conde Claros para dos vihuelas, Valderrábano muestra un estilo más denso y complejo del que se suele encontrar en las variaciones instrumentales españolas. Mientras la vihuela menor reitera el sencillo patrón melódico del romance, con su característico ritmo de 3/2 + 6/4, como un ostinato en su voz superior, las demás voces desarrollan un fluido contrapunto lleno de síncopas y contratiempos. Recuerda a las obras de autores italianos como Vincenzo Ruffo para conjuntos instrumentales más que a otras obras solistas. Para los que no disponen de dos vihuelas de tamaños diferentes, se puede utilizar una cejilla en el tercer traste de la vihuela menor, o utilizar una guitarra clásica (con la tercera en fa sostenido) junto con una vihuela en sol.

In this version of Conde Claros for two vihuelas, Valderrábano displays a denser and more complex style than is often found in other Spanish variations settings. While the higher vihuela [vihuela menor] reiterates the simple melodic pattern of the romance formula with its characteristic 3/2 + 6/4 rhythm as an ostinato in the highest voice, the other voices weave a fluid counterpoint characterised by syncopations and cross rhythms. It recalls the works for instrumental ensemble by Italian composers such as Vincenzo Ruffo more readily than other solo instrumental works. For those who do not have vihuelas of different sizes tuned a third apart, this work can be played on equal instruments by placing a capo at the third fret on the vihuela menor, or by using a modern classical guitar (with the third string lowered to f#) together with a vihuela in G.
